Virginia Lee Salsgiver, aged 87, died on Sunday, April 29, 2018 in University Place, Washington after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Virginia was born February 23, 1931, in Portland, Oregon, the daughter of the late Gerald Reynolds and Kathleen Reynolds.
Virginia was one of eleven brothers and sisters, all raised in Portland. She attended grade school and Washington High School, also in Portland.
Virginia loved working with the public. She began her career at 15, serving in a variety of roles at the Broadway Theater in Portland. She then worked for many years on Hawthorne Boulevard at John’s Drug Store, also in Portland. While raising three children through the 1960s and into the mid-1970s, Virginia worked for a number of dealerships in the auto industry. Beginning in 1976, she began a 27-year career as credit manager with George and Carmella Smith at Smith’s Home Furnishings.
After retiring from Smith’s, Virginia moved to Puyallup, Washington where she lived with her daughter Betti-Jo Day, her son-in-law David Day, and her granddaughter Cassie Lee Mortensen. Virginia loved to travel, listen to Johnny Mathis, do arts and crafts, and home decorating. She also enjoyed time with her beloved dog Lexi, and being with her family.
Virginia is survived by her brother, Alan Reynolds of Portland and his wife Judy; her daughters Linda Morgan of Vancouver, Washington and Betti-Jo Day and her son-in-law David Day of Tacoma, Washington; and her son Michael Salsgiver and his wife Brenda Salsgiver of Portland. She was preceded in death in 1962 by her youngest daughter Cassie Lee Salsgiver. Virginia also very much loved her five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a large number of nieces and nephews; and many, many good friends.
There will be a private interment service for immediate family members only at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1650 NW Naito Parkway, Portland, OR 97209.
